Yi Chen had never felt his heart beat so fast.
He was like a drowning man who had been suddenly pulled out of the water with great effort, and could only gulp in deep breaths of air now.
Noticing that something wasn’t right with him, Yu Yan froze, raised his hand, and patted his back. “What’s the matter?”
Yi Chen smelled the scent of milk on his body and quickly recovered from his gaffe.
“Nothing.” He still held him and asked, “Why didn’t you say a word about coming here? I would have had someone pick you up.”
“If I had said something, then it wouldn’t be a surprise ah.” Yu Yan laughed. “Why did you get off work so early?”
He had had it all planned out. If he arrived before 5 o’clock, Yi Chen would definitely not be at home. A few days ago, he had surreptitiously probed around a bit and had found out that Yi Chen wouldn’t have any other celebration feasts today.
Originally, he had thought that all these conditions had made the situation favorable for him, but in the end, there was still a screw-up.
However, that was fine. He just wanted to celebrate Yi Chen’s birthday, whether or not it was a surprise wasn’t that important.
Yi Chen had just reflected on what Yu Yan had just said.
He frowned. “Birthday?”
“Yes ah.” Yu Yan asked, “You left work so early, have you eaten yet?”
“Not yet.” Yi Chen paused. “How did you know that today is my birthday?”
Yu Yan hehed and seemed to be very proud as he answered, “I checked it on Baidu.”
Yi Chen raised his eyebrows, lifted his hand, and rubbed his neck. He didn’t say much and just asked, “Tired from the flight?”
“That flight was how long ah, I’m not that delicate.” Speaking of this, Yu Yan suddenly thought of something and hastened to pat Yi Chen’s shoulder. “Wait…You let go first.”
Yi Chen didn’t move and instead said, “Hug for a while longer.”
Yu Yan laughed. “No. The cake… it has to go in the fridge.”
The embrace was then over. Yu Yan picked up the big cake and said, “I’ll borrow the refrigerator for a bit.”
Yi Chen raised his hand to untie his tie, his fatigue from earlier now completely gone because of the hug. “What borrow, this whole house is yours. Why did you buy such a big cake? And carry it all the way from Manyang?”
“No, I picked it out in advance at a cake shop in Jincheng.” Yu Yan said, “Hasn’t Yi Ran also been living in your house recently? I was afraid that if it was too small, there wouldn’t be enough to eat.”
Yu Yan opened the refrigerator and was stunned.
He wasn’t very good at cooking, but because he was at home all year round, he would buy some frozen cooked food to put in the refrigerator. However, the refrigerator in Yi Chen’s house was too empty. There was nothing in it but two bottles of beer.
Seeing his doubtful look, Yi Chen said, “Auntie buys fresh ingredients every day, and I let her take the remaining ones back with her. Did you eat anything on your way here?”
“Had a little airplane dinner,” Yu Yan replied.
Yi Chen walked behind him and curved his hand around his neck. “Let’s go.”
Yu Yan turned his head and asked, “Go where?”
“Restaurant.” Yi Chen met his eyes and said, “Or the supermarket?”
Yu Yan soon understood what he meant. “…But I can only make noodles.”
“Noodles are very delicious too.”
Yu Yan fell into a little bit of a daze, and soon the two of them went out.
They just so happened to leave at the time when everyone was getting off work, and thus encountered a few traffic jams, which resulted in them taking half an hour to reach the supermarket.
When they entered the supermarket, the two of them first went straight to the grocery section.
“How long are you staying this time?” Yi Chen picked up a shopping basket casually with one hand. The supermarket had changed the color of the baskets to red since New Year’s was coming, completely unaware of the fact that this new color made their customers look like the people who carried vegetable baskets to buy vegetables in a village. However, Yi Chen would look fantastic even if he was walking down a catwalk carrying such a basket.
“Don’t know yet, I haven’t booked the return tickets yet.” Yu Yan found the brand of noodles that he often cooked, put it in the basket, took out his cellphone, and opened a ticket booking app.
Yi Chen thought he wanted to look at airplane tickets now, so he directly grabbed his cellphone away from him and said, “Don’t go back.”
“No.” Of course, Yu Yan was also reluctant to go back so early. He said, “…I forgot that the room from before is now being occupied by Yi Ran ba? I just wanted to see if there are any hotel rooms available nearby.”
“That’s your room, what would he be doing staying there? He stays in a different room.” Then Yi Chen stated with a frown, “No, you don’t have a room, you will sleep with me.”
The middle-aged woman who was shopping nearby heard their conversation, raised her head abruptly, and stared at them with extremely strange and unfriendly eyes.

Yu Yan exited the app and smiled with a red face. “Then I won’t look anymore.”
Yu Yan had originally only wanted to buy some things that could be cooked quickly and without any fuss by adding some seasonings, but in the end, they kept picking up things as they walked, and most of the shopping basket was thus filled.
The supermarket was also very busy during rush hour, and there was a line at every checkout station. Yu Yan was just about to pick a line with the smallest number of people when suddenly a thought struck his mind as they were approaching a line.
He subconsciously grasped Yi Chen’s hand.
Yi Chen looked sideways at him. “What’s the matter?”
“…… I’ll line up ba.” Yu Yan said, “You wait for me in the parking lot first.”
“Together.”

Yi Chen slowly strolled towards the exit, turned his head around, and after confirming that his little boyfriend had left, he straightforwardly turned around and walked to the cash register with the least number of people in line.
After only a few minutes, Yu Yan returned.
Yi Chen glanced at the shopping basket, but only saw the pile of food that they had already gotten, and nothing else.
As expected, Yu Yan went to the line with the least number of people. A customer left after checking out, and the spot opened up. Just as Yi Chen was about to take the opportunity to go in, he saw Yu Yan make a move.
Because of the empty position in front, Yu Yan could move forward a few steps, coming to a stand right next to the shelf next to the checkout counter.
Yi Chen saw his little boyfriend glance around at his surroundings like a thief.
Then, his little boyfriend’s eyes went straight to the shelf on the right.
He looked at it for about a minute ba, and just as Yi Chen was feeling that his eyes were becoming tired, Yu Yan raised his hand and quickly took something from the shelf.
Then he poked out a few pieces of food from the top of the shopping basket, carefully buried the item at the bottom, covered it up tightly with the things above, and after he was done, kept glancing down.
It didn’t look like he was just normally buying things, but instead as if he was stealing something.

By the time he had finished this whole process, Yu Yan’s heart had almost jumped out of his throat. He let out a breath, lowered his head to make sure that he had hidden everything perfectly, and only then started lining up without bearing any worries.
10 minutes later, it was finally his turn.
First, he took things out of the basket one by one. When he got to the last few items, his actions became twice as fast. Before the cashier could even see his movements clearly, those supplies were placed by her hands.
The cashier was a girl. She looked at what was by her hand and very calmly picked it up. She looked up as if she didn’t care. “Do you need a shopping bag?”

Yu Yan nodded desperately. “Yes. The biggest size, thank you.”
“Do you have a membership with our supermarket?” the girl asked as she bagged the items.
Seeing that the other party put those things considerately at the bottom of the bag, Yu Yan gave the other party a grateful look. “No.”
“That’s 637 yuan.” The girl replied with an ‘I understand’ laugh and asked, “Swipe card or pay cash?”
Yu Yan said, “Alipay…”
“WeChat.” A male voice came from the side.
Yu Yan’s smile froze.
Next to him was Yi Chen, who had just returned from the passageway. He picked up the plastic bag very naturally, scanned the QR code in front of him with his cellphone, and smoothly paid the bill.
The cashier was also stunned. After the prompt of the successful payment rang out, she immediately returned to her senses. “Okay, this is your receipt…”
Whoosh.
Yu Yan quickly grabbed the receipt.
The cashier’s hand paused in the empty space and she suddenly felt that the atmosphere wasn’t quite right.
She was still thinking hard when she saw the handsome man who had suddenly just arrived reach out and take the boy’s hand.

Yi Chen asked, “Are you finished this time?”
Yu Yan replied, “….I’m done.”
The cashier showed a perfect smile, full of professionalism and said in a gentle tone, “Please come again soon.”
——Fuck, this person with such an high appearance value even does gay relationships only with people with the same level of appearance as his own??

They went all the way back to the car. Yu Yan had just breathed a sigh of relief and was just about to fasten his seat belt when he heard a question from the person next to him.
“Did you get it?”
Yu Yan’s actions paused. “What?”
“Didn’t you say you were going back to buy something?” Yi Chen started the car, turned on the heating, and gave him a sideways glance as he asked again, “Did you buy it?”
“…… Yes.”
“What did you buy?”
Yu Yan replied with a poker-face, “Some daily necessities.”
Yi Chen laughed and stretched his long fingers into the plastic bag.
Then in front of Yu Yan’s dazed eyes, he accurately took out those daily necessities, held them in his hand, and carefully looked at them—
“Ultra thin, skin-friendly, and comfortable.” Yi Chen read its description seriously before looking at the other item. “Long-lasting, tasteless, easy to clean…”
Then came to the conclusion—”Pretty good.”
“…………” Yu Yan had fallen into a daze.
Yi Chen threw the things back into the bag. Seeing Yu Yan’s appearance, he couldn’t help but laugh.
How had he picked up such a treasureah?
Yu Yan only snapped out of this daze after awhile.
Now that he had been discovered, he took a deep breath and said with a red face, “I just… am preparing for any contingency. Don’t laugh.”
Yi Chen replied, “I didn’t laugh.”
Yu Yan took a few deep breaths, reached out to turn down the heating, pulled down the window a bit, and tried to change the topic. “…did you turn on the heat too high, it’s a little stuffy.”
“Don’t blush, and you won’t be stuffy.” Yi Chen asked, “Did you watch some videos secretly?”
Yu Yan acted as if someone had stepped on his tail. “No! What videos?!!”
Seeing him get all puffed up, Yi Chen stopped teasing him and used a lot of effort to hold back his laughter. “Nothing… Let’s go home.”
Who knew that before the car could even drive some distance away from the supermarket, he would hear Yu Yan say in a low voice, “I watched a little.”

Now it was Yi Chen’s turn to take a deep breath.
He couldn’t help but laugh, and stretched his hand out to hold Yu Yan’s. “What’s the matter?”
“Nothing.” Yu Yan forced himself to pretend to be calm, but in fact, his heart had nearly flown up into the heavens during this back-and-forth.
He still kept looking out of the window and put on an old driver’s voice as he said—
“…… We’re all adults anyway.”
—Acting as though the one who had sneakily gone off to buy contraceptives wasn’t him at all.
Yi Chen was caught so off guard that he almost didn’t stop at the red light.
